FIND THE ACCORDION GIRL!
So here’s the story:
Tonight I left the galleries and had some drinks with friends in Chelsea. We talked about art, business, music, the future of art and business, creativity, etc… After drinking we all went our seperate ways. I took the train for the first time in a month and, when I got out on my stop to the LES on 2nd and Houston, I saw this girl. She wasn’t playing but I thought she was interesting so I asked if I could take her picture.
“Well pictures don’t pay my landlord rent the last time I checked!”
I laughed at her response because that is the sort of smart-ass response I would have given when I was a struggling artist. I took a picture, threw it in her case, threw her my card and took another shot for myself and my frinds on tumblr (seen above), then left to walk home.
So here we all are: Me, this anonymous accordion girl, and you (the peeps of tumblr).
And here is my deal: I will shoot a free mini-promotional kit for this girl if we (the peeps of tumblr) can find her (and if she wants it… maybe she doesn’t care about that sort of shit?!). But it’s my way of saying Thanks to the tumblr community that has helped me grow my career and to NYC where I was able to make my art work. Here is what I know about her:
• She’s a girl
• She plays accordion
• She plays it at the 2nd ave and Houston stop in NYC
• She looks like the girl in the pic
Find her, send her my way, and she gets a free promo kit. I can’r promise it will go anywhere from there, but at least I can do what I can do from where I am. Maybe she just makes music for sport and doesn’t care, who know? But if this goes well, I may do this more often for the talented artists of NYC. I dunno - I just want to use my talent for something positive sometimes. NYC is fucking HARD on creatives - so many people move here with a dream and I don’t think everyone gets lucky breaks.
This may be stupid and she may not need or want this help, or it may be awesome and something she is looking for, but I hope it’s awesome and I hope it helps the world in some way!!
Thanks Tumblr! You sock my rocks!
Later gators!
MD
(edit: I hope this doesn’t come off as condescending to her or anyone else playing in the subways. I am sure this sounds that way to someone somewhere… but that is not the intention)
I took Vesper for his first walk in NYC. Enjoy!
